GRA461

Objective

To design a poster series promoting The Shape of Time, a social issue clock exhibition presented by GRA 461 Visual Communication V. The posters needed to intrigue viewers, highlight the exhibit’s concept, and communicate essential event info, all while experimenting with abstract visual storytelling.

What I've Done

  • Concept development & exploration
  • Typographic and image-based poster design
  • Color theory and visual rhythm refinement
  • Layout and hierarchy optimization
  • Branding and sponsor integration
  • Print and digital preparation in CMYK and RGB formats
  • Creative Process

  • Research I explored how time could be represented visually without literal clocks, thinking in terms of shape, flow, and perception.
  • Visual Experiments: I tested multiple visual metaphors using gradients, geometric forms, and distortion to interpret the theme The Shape of Time.
  • Typography: I balanced custom typography with minimal layouts to maintain clarity while emphasizing design hierarchy.
  • Iteration: Each poster was refined to function as a stand-alone piece while contributing to the cohesion of the full series.
  • Prep: Final posters were formatted for both large-format print and digital display, maintaining fidelity across mediums.
  • Results

The final poster series sparked curiosity and engagement by taking an abstract approach to time and social awareness. The designs aligned with exhibition goals while pushing the boundaries of typical event promotion visuals. They also showcased my ability to think conceptually while delivering clean, professional outcomes that adhere to technical guidelines.

    Conclusion

This project was a chance to fuse concept-driven design with clear communication, which challenged me to be intentional with every color, line, and word. It’s not just a poster; it’s an invitation into a bigger story about time, society, and the way design can shape how we see both.
